LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE + ME

“To me, Landscape Architecture is more than just a profession, it is an
opportunity in which I can combine my love for design and my passion for
the outdoors to innovatively and sustainably create a balance between
humans and the natural environment so that we can improve upon as well as
share with future generations what we experience today.”

A forest management and wetland development project on a 40 acre parcel in Vilas County, Wisconsin. The project consists of three major goals. First, to selectively harvest mature softwoods based upon successional stages of forest growth in order to regenerate the pine and hardwood stands, while improving habitat conditions for various species of wildlife. The second goal is to transition an overgrown and currently unproductive marsh wetland into a year-round pond in order to support pre-existing aquatic and emergent vegetation, as well as to further attract and sustain wildlife. The third and final goal is to transform and utilize several acres of open space as result of the timber harvesting for the planting of native annual and perennial food sources.

The University of Minnesota raised and allocated substantial funds to
renovate the Nolte Center. A generous portion of the grant specified
funding to be allocated for redesigning the Nolte/Bell/Folwell (NBF)
Outdoor Commons Area. My submission to the University of Minnesota’s
Request for Proposal (RFP) was selected. I was commissioned to proceed with
the preliminary phases from the analysis and conceptual design stages onto the schematic designs.

The design reflects Minnesota's historical and natural landscape. The site design consists of 2 differently oriented series of mounds emulating the moraine landscape throughout Minnesota left by the glacial advances and retreats. The site provides a series of informal gathering spaces for all visitors, outdoor classrooms, and a outdoor cafe' as an expansion of the Nolte Eatery.

Landscape Evaluation for Biological Diversity in the Laketown Township Study Area

The following document is the first in a series of reports directed towards the continuing analysis on the existing environmental conditions of the Laketown Township area. The Landscape Evaluation for Biological Diversity in the Laketown Township area primarily focuses on the forest, wetland, and aquatic habitats located within the study area. Focusing on these conditions, the key goals of this report are to:

 Conduct ecological assessments of current habitat systems within the study area
 Identify critical habitat within the study area based on the principles of habitat quality
and biological diversity
 Recommend areas for restoring and enhancing natural habitat within the study area

This report is designed in effort to provide an understanding of the existing ecological conditions as well
as provide guidelines to assist in developing a sustainable and effective land use plan. The overall
intention of this report is to help provide a plan that will ensure the protection of the natural habitat
resources located in the Laketown Township area.
